Annual Appeal
Thank you to all who have given so generously to
our Annual Appeal campaign. We appreciate your contributions
and interest in our work. The response has been wonderful,
but we are only halfway to our goal, so please send in your
contribution today. Any gift is greatly appreciated and helps
to ensure that the collections are safe and accessible.
Money raised during our first Annual Appeal in 2008 enabled
us to continue sharing our collections through outreach programs.
For example, David Weiss developed and presented a compilation
of clips showing how the finfishing industry has changed over
the years during a workshop at the Maine Maritime Museum in
Bath, Maine.
Endowment Challenge
NHF was fortunate to receive a $25,000 endowment challenge
grant from the Maine Community Foundation in September 2008.
This is a one-to-one matching opportunity. To support our
endowment we will raise another $25,000 in new funds by June
2010, resulting in $50,000 of endowment dollars.
We are pleased to report that as of
October 31, 2009, we have raised $13,350 in pledges and donations.
Executive Director David Weiss says,
“Endowment donors are those who have the longest perspective
on the value of the historical and cultural resources created
by NHF. An endowment is money that is never spent; the donations
are carefully invested so that earnings help support the programs
of the organization indefinitely.”
We are fortunate that the Atwater
Kent Foundation contributed to our endowment two years in
a row in memory of Diane Lee, an Orland, Maine, filmmaker. |
