The Story of Baxter State Park
In 1931, Former Governor Percival Baxter gave to the people of Maine the first parcel of what was to become the more than 200,000 acre park that bears his name. At the time most considered the area a remote wasteland which may be why it remains a wilderness in which to seek solace from the fast paced world, a place where nature is at peace.
