Summary
Collection contains home movies. "Cutting Ice" shows ice cutting operation by the Sebago Ice Company using a gas-powered saw (Model T engine) and hand tools. Scenes include a conveyor moving ice from the pond into the ice house, and men using hand tools to guide blocks into place in the ice house.
Biographical/Historical Notes
Everett Johnson had an interest in ice cutting and lived near Long Pond in South Portland. Flave Chapman, owner of the Sebago Ice Company, appears in the film. This footage is included in the distribution film Ice Harvesting Sampler coproduced by NHF and Maine Maritime Museum.
