Summary
Collection contains promotional footage: scenes of northern Maine shot by a Greenville guiding service. Shown are activities in the Moosehead Lake region as well as major northern rivers: canoeing on the Allagash, running rapids on the St. John, and poling the St. Francis. Collection also contains home movies of Great Northern Paper Company operations.
Biographical/Historical Notes
Roberta Laverty was Executive Director of North Woods Arts Center in Dover-Foxcroft (Maine), which was dedicated to the research, teaching, and application of traditional north woods skills. The films in this collection were given to the Center. Moosehead Lake, the state's largest, covers 120 square miles. Great Northern Paper Company, now Bowater Incorporated, has its headquarters in Millinocket.
