William O'Farrell Fellowship Awarded

Northeast Historic Film (NHF) is pleased to announce the 2011 award of the William O’Farrell Fellowship to Walter Forsberg, a Research Fellow at New York University's Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Program.     Passing of Dr. Alaric Faulkner

    We are saddened to share news that Northeast Historic Film donor Alaric Faulkner died on March 18 at the age of 66. He was a distinguished historical archaeologist and member of the University of Maine anthropology faculty for 30 years. In 2003 Faulkner donated to NHF five reels of 16mm film and an audio interview with Faulkner by John Greenman. The film depicts archaeological digs in Maine.     Boston TV Collaborative

    Northeast Historic Film is pleased to be a partner in the Boston Local TV News project, a collaboration of four institutions and their local television news collections— the Boston Public Library (BPL), Northeast Historic Film (NHF), WGBH, and Cambridge Community Television (CCTV).

    Stillman Field Trip

    One of the most enjoyable things about working at NHF is taking an occasional field trip to pick up a collection. Recently I found myself in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY where I had the great pleasure of meeting Amelia Stillman who conveyed the last portion of the films her late husband John S. Stillman wished us to have.

    Collaboration with George Eastman House and Queens Museum of Art

    Northeast Historic Film is pleased to announce a collaboration with the Queens Museum of Art and The L. Jeffrey Selznick School of Film Preservation at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. The group’s project, Moving Images 1938-1940: Amateur Filmmakers Record the New York World's Fair and Its Period, will catalog amateur 16 mm. and 8 mm. films and make the new descriptive records available to the public.

    In Memoriam: Alan Kattelle

    We are saddened by the death of Alan Kattelle on December 8, 2010. For many years Alan was a mentor and dear friend. When Northeast Historic Film established an advisory board in 1997, Alan was one of the founding members. We will miss his wise counsel, his encyclopedic knowledge and generous spirit.

    Describing Local Films: New Thoughts on Itinerant-produced Works

    Friday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Association of Moving Image Archivists/ International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives conference in Philadelphia we will present on "See yourself" films from the 1930s.
